Happy Holidays!

It seems that I post for holidays more than other occasions.  Today is the official observance of the Federal holiday known as Washington's Birthday.  Although his birthday is actually on the 22nd, Americans have a tendency of closing official things down on Mondays instead of on the actual holiday.  He was born February 11, 1731 according to official documents of the British empire, which meant that it was recorded using the Julian calendar since it was before the Calendar Act of 1750, which somehow makes the official date February 22, 1732 in the Gregorian calendar.  I don't understand where the extra year came from since my understanding is that the two were only 11 days off when they were switched, but I haven't taken the time to research it.  Most people's calendars show that today is President's Day since Abraham Lincoln also had a birthday last Wednesday.

Sochi Olympics

Dear NBC,

I really don’t care about the life story of some figure skater I’ve never heard of.  I do care that wasting time with all of these “fluff” pieces is taking away from time you could be spending showing events that I might actually be interested in watching.  Show more hockey games and skiing and snowboarding and I might spend more time watching your channel.

Go Seahawks!

Congratulations to the Seahawks for setting the SuperBowl record for the most playing time in the lead with 59 minutes and 48 seconds.

Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog day everyone!  Unfortunately the winter will continue.  Today is a special Groundhog day since they decided to commemorate the day with a football game this afternoon.  During the SuperBowl I usually can't decide if I'm rooting for Coke or Budweiser, but this year I'll root for the Seahawks.

Go Hawks!

Tomorrow the Seattle Seahawks are playing in the SuperBowl in New Jersey.  As long as their only opponent is the Broncos they have a chance to win.  If they have to play against the refs again they'll like lose like the last time they played in the SuperBowl.  Either way, it should be a good game to watch.
